What is Economics?

Simply put, economics is the study of how society makes choices regarding the allocation of its limited resources. Economics is a social science that researches the production, distribution, and consumption of various goods and services.

Do you want to STAND OUT?

Differentiate yourself from fellow graduates by majoring in economics.

Graduates who major in economics will typically be on a track to work in one of the following fields:
• Government services (Treasury, Reserve Bank, Trade and Industry);
• Parastatals (Escom, Telkom, Yskor, etc.);
• Large multinational corporations;
• Commercial and Investment banks;
• Insurance companies;
• Asset management companies (investment analyst);
• Consultancies;
• Think tanks and research organisations;
• International organisations;
• Journalism;
• Teacher or lecturer (academic) ; Researcher

Statistics show that the majority of Economics students obtain employment within six months of graduating. Other roles that Economics graduates regularly go into include management; marketing, sales and advertising; human resources; IT and education.
